The 2017 AA Visiting School in Brussels will be the second edition of the visiting program of the Architectural Association School of Architecture in Belgium.
Brussels is one of the most stimulating European cities in the present. A multicultural metropolis that have fostered an active hub for contemporary culture; it gathers strong architecture, dance, theatre and visual arts scenes along with prominent educational programs and an intriguing political life. It is home of a fascinating and complex society, which comes out of the enriching juxtaposition between two local communities – Walloons and Flemish – and an important international community, both coming from European and non-European countries.
On the other hand, Brussels is, since the end of the Second World War, home of numerous political institutions. International organizations have stablished their base in the capital of Belgium. Two of the most relevant world institutions – the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization – concentrate its principal premises in the capital of Belgium, along with other international organizations like Benelux.
It is in the context of a culturally and sociologically rich capital that concentrates some of the most influential political structures, that the Visiting School will be developed. An incredibly stimulating urban environment that immediately provokes a reflection on the relationship between politics, the city and new media.
